Field Worker Interest Group
Background and Objectives
While electricity distribution can introduce hazards for the public and utility workers, utilities have put in place many risk-reducing procedures and processes. Peer-to-peer sharing of new practices, protective approaches, equipment, tools, and technologies will positively impact both worker and public safety.
The goal of this effort is for EPRI to facilitate utility field workers, trainers, and safety professionals in an information exchange on safety issues, work practices, use of PPE, tools, and new technologies. Results will help utilities support these initiatives and help advise EPRI research.
Key areas of discussion will include training, grounding and personnel protection, arc flash, and downed conductors. Meeting topics are wide ranging; examples may cover:
- Practice review
- Tool review / comparisons
- Riskier work scenarios
- Design and workability
- Splicing and connectors
- Worker communications
- PPE
- Trouble shooting work
- Line work
- Rubber coverup
- Event with an injury or near miss
Schedule
Quarterly one-hour virtual meetings. Two of these meetings would be held in conjunction with an onsite meeting at either a rodeo or utility training yard.
Who Should Join
Utility lineworkers, trainers, safety personnel, and line supervision are welcome. There are no membership requirements for this group.
