Cables and Cable Accessories

Life-cycle performance of cables, joints, terminations, and separable connectors

This research area investigates cable accessories, including joints, terminations, and separable connectors, to understand their life-cycle performance. The research includes performing forensic analysis on aged or failed units provided by utilities, as well as subjecting new units to accelerated aging to expose degradation and failure modes. Findings from this research can inform equipment specifications, inspection and maintenance approaches, and workmanship practices, resulting in reduced system operating costs and enhanced reliability.
